About

For anyone who may have just wandered around by themselves on the internet or I linked you here, this page is a good start.

What is MINDer?

MINDer is my hub for posting the old-school raytraced art you could see in those cutscenes of old 3D computer games or low-budget homemade films. The way shadows, lighting and such looked way different than what we have now, and I find that interesting. I'm not the only one who's into this by the way.

A year or two ago I tried to pick up POV-Ray, a script-based raytracing engine from around the time period I'm aiming for (90s-00s). However, I was lazy. Now I've tried it again, and I actually have a somewhat decent grip on how everything works. I'm still fairly new though.

Why MINDer?

Why not? I like making CGI that's crappy but in a memorable way.

How could I do this?

The link I provided above does have a mega thread for doing this kind of stuff. However, as I also said above, I use POV-Ray. You'll need to watch some tutorials and read some documentation if you wanna know how to make something inside the program, but you'll probably find it pretty easy once you understand the basics.

How could I host my own early CGI imagery?

If you look at the bottom of the site, you'll see two things: the license, and the service I'm using to host this. It's Blogger, a blogging service by Google. You can make your own blog on Blogger for free. You just need a name, a URL (they can provide you with one for free), and enough motivation to customise the theme. If you don't, it'll look a bit similar to other blogs out there.

There are also other options there, but I'm not using them for reasons. I'll list them out here.

  • Webflow
  • WordPress
  • Weebly
  • Squarespace
  • WiX (DON'T USE WIX AT ANY COST.)
  • Medium
Those aren't all of the options, but nonetheless, they're good starting points. Except for WiX. That one can die in a fire and make a full blockbuster off of the footage.

What's that license on the bottom?

That is a creative commons license. If you have the urge to use any of my images in your work (there are much better examples, but go ahead!), you need to follow the license or... well, I'll be knocking at your door. Basically, follow the license or you don't get my permission, and I'll take care of business.
